this week's guffaws

What is this??

Yes, it's been a long, long time since I've posted a guffaws, but frankly, I was getting a little tired.  There are so many humor blogs out there, ones that are updated multiple times a day and crack me up with each and every offering.  I certainly don't consider my (formerly) weekly post to be even nearly as significant, but like each of the small parts of this blog, it's just one aspect of what I think makes up my blog-- laughter.

Since it's been so long, and I'm a little too lazy to go back through my email folder with all the jokes that have been sent my way, I'm going with a more personal guffaws this week for the official emergence from bloggy hibernation.  Last night, hubby and I met up with some friends to hang out at a local cafe, to listen to some live music and throw back a few drinks.  We arrived first and sat together on an outside bench, and we decided to take one of those camera-held-at-arm's-length photos of ourselves, all spiffy clean for a night out.

Well.  Let's just say that the results are guffaws worthy, at least to us.  The people nearby must have thought we had already been hitting the bottle by the silly laughter coming from the bench as we viewed each picture!  But, really.  A certain engagement-photo-difficulties storyline came to mind as we tried again and again.  And again. 

Let's take a look at the results:

Oops, hubby forgot to take off his glasses, so the first pic we took wasn't a winner.  

And, something looks a little off on me, too... try again...

Okay, there's definitely something going on there.  What's with the eye?

Let's practice keeping that eye open, shall we?

HEY, HEY-- stand down there, Bozo!  Yes, your eyes are open, 

and we can see each of your 72 teeth, as well.  Uh, settle down now and take a normal picture!

Um.  This isn't "normal."  Yes, both eyes are open, which obviously is a gigantic accomplishment, but this one just isn't right yet.  And, what?  Is your arm getting a little tired there, hubby?  Stretch!

WHAT THE HELL?  You can't see much of our apparent undead selves here, but from what you can see, it's pretty certain that the left eye is still being as lazy as ever.  Let's do this thing!

Oh come on, now.  This isn't even funny any more.  Should I be scheduling a doctor's appointment, or perhaps a plastic surgery consultation for old lady droopy eyes?  Why is this SO hard?

Is this a good look?  What do you think?  Maybe employ a tooth pick next time?

After all that eye stretching, I think I'm finally ready.

Screw you, hubby.  Seriously.  I finally found a way to isolate the muscles in my left eyelid enough to manage to keep the eye open for one damn shot and you go and do this.  Nice.

Guess what?  I don't care that your eyes are squinty and your smile is huge.  I'm going with this one as the evening's winner.  Lefty may not be as wide as righty, but she's made a valiant effort.

Well, that there is some guffaws you're not likely to see anywhere else on the web.  It might not be nice to make fun of others, but it's a damn fun time to make fun of oneself!
