- I had never heard the phrase "cargo cult" until I heard this story on All Things Considered- "'Cult' Hero Mike Daisey: When The Dollar Is Almighty." This is the perfect example of why I love NPR- interesting and unique stories like no others.
- Okay, this one may be tricky on the actual law application, but the story is heartbreaking no matter where you fall in your beliefs about 'gay rights.' This one is just about basic human rights- the right to go to school and not get harassed and beat up. "Justice Department Intervenes In Gay Rights Suit" from All Things Considered.
- "Emotional Training Helps Kids Fight Depression" from Morning Edition intrigued me, in multiple lights... something that I and people in my family could certainly benefit from. Sounds pretty basic or common sense, but can be really difficult to apply in real life for some of us.
- On a MUCH lighter note is this story from All Things Considered. You gotta love Stephen Colbert, in my opinion, for his brains, his incredible parodying abilities and his infectious sense of humor. Well, some Olympians love him, too. Have you heard about his assistance to the speedskating team? Here's the latest info- "U.S. Speedskating Finds Savior In Stephen Colbert."
- And finally, I didn't actually get to hear this program, since I turned on the radio right in the last few minutes, but it's a topic I continue to be interested in, and one that I think lots of people don't think about. (Do you microwave your leftovers in the plastic containers like someone I know?? Please stop, if you do. Really.) The topic on today's The Diane Rehm Show was titled, "Slow Death by Rubber Duck."
That's all I got for this week. Hope something caught your fancy here.
Until next time,
